Turf laying - we prep the ground and lay it for you

Old lawn lifted, ground rotovated, levelled and raked, fresh-cut turf laid and rolled. Turf goes down the same day it comes off the field, so it roots fast.

Tired of a patchy, muddy mess?

Seed gets eaten by the birds or washed out by the first heavy week. Doing it yourself means hiring a rotavator, shifting tonnes of soil and finding somewhere to tip the old lawn.

Get the levelling wrong and you live with a bumpy lawn for years. It’s the part that’s hardest to put right afterwards.

We don’t just roll grass out over whatever’s there. The ground gets properly prepared first - that’s the bit that decides whether a lawn takes.

The supply & lay standard

How your garden gets transformed

  1. 1

    Full ground prep

Old lawn and weeds lifted out, soil rotavated to break up the compaction, then levelled and raked to a fine tilth.

  2. 2

    Fresh-cut turf

Your turf is cut to order and laid the same day it comes off the field, so it roots away fast instead of sitting on a pallet.

  3. 3

    Nothing left behind

Old sod, roots and rubble go with us. You get the garden back clean and ready to water.

  4. 4

    Aftercare

We leave you a straight watering guide for the first few weeks - that period decides how the lawn settles.

Lawns we have laid

Real jobs around Morpeth and Northumberland.

Recent jobs

Gardens we have turned round lately, and what each one needed.

Shaded lawn, Morpeth

The problem: Thin, mossy grass that never dried out under the trees.

The tired lawn came up in full, the ground was rotovated and levelled for turf laying, and we laid a shade-tolerant turf that copes with sitting out of direct sun.

Sloping garden, Northumberland

The problem: A big sloping plot where the soil had compacted hard.

Broke up the compaction across the whole area, regraded it and levelled it for turf laying, then re-turfed the lot in a single run.

New build, Great Park

The problem: Builders had left rubble under a heavy clay topsoil that held water.

Cleared what the builders left behind, rotovated the clay and brought in fresh screened topsoil so the garden drains properly rather than sitting wet.

Front garden, Gosforth

The problem: Patchy old grass that had given up at the front of the house.

Dug the old lawn out completely, regraded and levelled for turf laying, topped up with fresh topsoil and laid new turf across the front.

Curved borders, Washington

The problem: Curved patio edges and planted borders to work around.

Cut the turf in to follow every curve and border edge, so the joins sit tight and the shape of the garden still reads properly.

Family and pet lawn, Whitley Bay

The problem: A coastal garden taking heavy use from children and dogs.

Laid a hard-wearing turf chosen to take the traffic, so it recovers from paws and football rather than wearing through to bare ground.

Turf laying across Northumberland and the North East

Gardens round here throw up the same handful of problems: heavy clay that holds water through a wet winter, builders’ rubble left just under the surface on the newer estates, and ground that’s been compacted flat by machinery. All three stop a lawn rooting, and none of them are fixed by laying turf straight on top.

That’s why the prep matters more than the turf. We rotavate to open the ground up, add screened topsoil where levels need building, and only then lay - cut that morning, down the same day.
